My company, American Tactical Gear began it’s evolution in early 2015.

Here’s the story.

I’ve been a CCW permit holder for several years.  In all that time I had accumulated a bushel basket full of concealed carry holsters.  None of which I liked.  So, I decided to make my own.  I took a piece of leather and went to work.  I made the holster strap.  I figured out where I wanted to carry the pistol on my belt.  Once all of that was done I punched matching holes in both pieces and literally bolted the two of them together.  It worked like a charm and I began using it.

Later that year my wife who, at the time was watching Shark Tank, said to me, “See, all it takes is one little invention and you can strike it rich.”

Jokingly, I replied: “I have one.”

I got my gun belt/concealed carry holster out and showed it to her.

She said, “You should get that patented.  And, if you do, I’ll help you pay for it.”

So, taking her up on her offer, I found a patent attorney and in September of 2015 began the process of obtaining a patent.  Two years and two months later I was awarded the patent for a “Combination concealed carry holster and gun belt”.

Once the patent was secured I decided to form a company and market the product.  At that point, American Tactical Gear and the “Side Kick” were born.  I found a U.S. company to manufacture the gun belts and holster straps for me and away I went.

In April of 2018 I displayed the “Side Kick” at a local gun show for the first time.  The product was well received by people attending the show and I sold several belts as a result.
